BOOSTED by twos at the 7th and 15th holes, Stewart McCall powered his way through the wind and rain to record a very impressive net 64.
He won the coveted Alex Ponton Memorial Cup with his nearest rivals being five shots adrift. He also won a severe reduction in his handicap.

Results: 1, S. McCall net 64; 2 equal, P. W. Henderson, J. A. Hume, R. G. Douglas and E. Barrowclough.

Other golfers with the necessary skills to hole out in two were J. R. Cooper, J. Farrell, P. W. Henderson, N. W. Purves and T. Welsh.

The first silverware of the season for the ladies was up for grabs on Monday.

A large turnout took to the Hill where they experienced sun, wind, rain and hail. Adapting best to the tricky conditions was June Craig with a 92 (20) 72 to win the Margo Lawson Cup.

Scratch winner was Martine Pow with a 74. Merle Heard and Sara Jamieson shared twos.
