JIM MOODY was appointed chairman of Selkirk FC at Wednesday night's AGM, writes Mark Inchley.
He replaces Craig Douglas who, in a letter of resignation, cited business reasons and other commitments as prompting his departure. Brian Combe steps in as vice-chairman.
Speaking yesterday, Moody said it was a great honour to take up the position
at the Yarrow Park club.
"I'm looking forward to things moving forward for the club again," he told The Wee Paper. "Things have stabilised on the field and now with a new committee we can begin to take the next steps.
"Everything is in place at Yarrow Park now. Before, there was an air of uncertainty, but now everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet."
Last weekend, Selkirk's season got off to a great start with a 4-1 win over Nithsdale in the South of Scotland Cup.
Goals from Kerr, Pritchard, Money and Munro helped seal the first-round victory in a fantastic performance marred only by the controversial sending off of Michael Moir for violent conduct.
Moir now faces a one-match ban and will miss this weekend's league game at Easthouses Lily.
Also missing will be Euan Pritchard and Craig Wilson, who remains on the books at the club despite announcing he will be unavailable to play for the foreseeable future.
But with talk of a new signing arriving from Hawick for tomorrow's Premier Division game, Moody insists the players are feeling confident and are itching to get going in the league.
"There's a few missing this weekend, but we're still confident. Easthouses are on the same level as us, so it's up for grabs.
"We beat them twice last season, but they've got the home advantage on Saturday.
"At the moment I'm just hoping it will go ahead because there is some doubt after the heavy rain they've had there."
Commenting on last weekend's cup game, coach Paul Brownlee added: "I was pleased with our show in the cup against Nithsdale last Saturday.
"We played well and it was a good win for us.
"I got a good 90 minutes' worth from all of the players and that's all I am looking for.
"It will be a hard game against Easthouses, especially up there.
"A few of our boys are new to Premier Division football and it's going to be an experience for them, but I think we can do well."
