LAST weekend in the July Medal competition, sponsored by Buccleuch Cleaners, it was the almost-retired dominie Norman Roxburgh who showed the field a clean pair of heels with a masterly round of 72 less 5 for a net 67.
Results: 1, N. W. Roxburgh, 67; 2, J. R. Clark, 67; 3, J. A. Hume, 68; 4, M. S.Robertson 69.

In the Twos Sweep only Les Millar and Nod Purves had the necessary skill to hole out in two at the eighteenth hole.

In last week’s report on the Selkirk Seniors Open, Ian Nicholson’s name was unfortunately missed out. He won the over-70s prize ... clever young thing.

Ladies: For the second week in a row the ladies had silverware to play for.

Producing a solid and consistent round of 88 (18) 69 was June Craig, who claimed the David Heard Cup in strong winds.

Scratch winner was Martine Pow with 68.

The twos went to Martine and Diane Cassidy.

Juniors: July monthly medal: 1, Craig Sandilands, 65; 2, James Bett 68; 3, Glen Maltman 73.

Rotary Club of Scotland Competition (run in conjunction with the medal): handicap winner, Craig Sandilands, 65; scratch winner, James Bett, 77.

Both go forward to the area finals at Torwoodlee Golf Club on Thursday, August 7. Selkirk Golf Club would like to thank Selkirk Rotary Club for the excellent trophies and prizes for the winners.

On Monday, Murray Cleghorn will coach any junior (member or not) on the short game followed by a nine-hole Texas Scramble. And it’s FREE. All you have to do is turn up at the golf club for a 9.45 am start.
