BORDER CHAMPIONSHIP
DEFENDING champions Hawick just had the edge over Selkirk's second string last Friday night.
The home team took a deserved half-time lead thanks to a Craig MacDougall try and Michael Rutherford conversion.
Hawick kept in touch through two Weir penalties.
In the second half, the visitors took the lead with three more Weir penalties as Selkirk's frustration crept in.

SEMI-JUNIORS
YOUTH Club travelled to Burnfoot last weekend in search of their first away win of the season – and found it.
Hawick PSA defended well against a lively Selkirk side in the early stages, but Youth Club opened the scoring after 16 minutes when hooker Peter Forrest touched down, but it proved to be the only try of the half.
The second period was a different story. Tries by Rory Banks, Darren Clapperton (2) and Iain Douglas blew the Teries away. Banks rounded off the scoring with three conversions.
The coaches were able to make a number of changes and although the PSA managed to put some pressure on the Souters they were unable to open their account.
This was another solid performance by the Youth Club with all players giving something to the cause.
This Saturday, Youth Club play Kelso Quins at Victoria Park, kicking off at 2.30pm. There is a development game beforehand on the Burnmill pitch at 1.30pm.
RHINOS
FIVE Selkirk Rhinos teams travelled to Linlithgow on Sunday for a four-way tournament, featuring the home club plus RHC and Perth.
The Selkirk players put on an excellent show in all grades.
The P4 side came away with two victories and one defeat, the scores being 7-3, 5-2 and 4-6. The whole squad played some excellent rugby on the day, with tries being scored by Nathaniel Armstrong, Ryan Cottrell, Liam Davidson, Guy Mallin and Gregor Nichol.
A special mention must go to Kieran McLaren, who scored a superb try while guesting for the opposition.
Rhinos' P6 team had a shaky start, losing 5-0 to Perth. However, the players bounced back against RHC to record a 9-0 win, tries coming from Mark Rutter (3), Tom Manson-Stubbs (2), Rory Hamilton, Ciaran Blair, Sam Coltherd and Caitlin Cottrell.
The P6 players also put on an excellent display of rugby against Linlithgow, with rampaging runs from Ruaraidh Donaldson and Ciaran Blair leading to a Manson-Stubbs try.
Coltherd extended the lead in the second half to give the Rhinos a 2-0 win. The whole team played well, with a well-taken clearance kick from Josh Thomson keeping Selkirk's line intact.
