Selkirk's Border League fixture with Langholm was one of the many casualties of last weekend's storms – but not before the impressive-looking young home side got in a bit of practice at the crease, putting the Muckle Tooners to work in the field in the process.
After a couple of quiet overs, opening batsman David Gardiner fell in the third to bowler Steven Johnstone with just the single under his belt.
While replacement Michael Fenton didn't do much better, also hitting just a single before falling to Gr
aham Park in the fourth, Neil McGuire and then John Everet built a steady momentum before being caught by the Parks, both from Johnstone deliveries
Everet came in well, immediately finding gaps in the field to hit the boundary several times, but he fell just one short of the half-century.
The Langholm field struggled to deal with the pair's aggressive batting, and weak play in the field and a dropped catch cost them dearly.
Mid-order batsmen Kenny Paterson and 14-year-old Greg Fenton both had a solid innings, with 24 and 26 respectively, but the tailenders struggled to make an impact as Graham and Gregor Park continued to cause the Souters problems at the crease.
After Darren Fenton's duck, Jordan Reid held on to score six, but was caught by Maxwell from Stewart's first delivery of the game in the 42nd over to leave Langholm with 143 to beat.
However, it wasn't to be, rain forcing proceedings to be abandoned during tea, leaving both sides facing the prospect of yet another rescheduled fixture early in the season.
In the Border Reserve League, Selkirk 2nds' fixture with their Gala counterparts on Sunday was also called off due to the wet wicket from the previous night's thunderstorms.
