Anderson to the four in rout of city side

Borders Fjordhus 7

Watsonians 0

Borders Fjordhus launched an all-out attack on their city opponents last weekend.

Playing in National Ladies division two, the local girls wiped the floor with Watsonians at Volunteer Park in Hawick.

The visitors came close to opening the scoring early in the match, but this only seemed to spark Fjordhus into action and for the next 30 minutes they produced their best display so far this season.

Laura Anderson provided the final touch for the first goal after some good linking and scored again minutes later with a long shot. Denise Fairbairn then popped up at the far post to finish off another flowing move involving her fellow midfielders.

Perhaps the best move of the match produced the fourth goal. A transfer of the ball found schoolgirl Sarah Robertson who enjoyed a mazy run along the Watsonians back line before finding Anderson who was able to complete an impressive first half hat-trick.

A somewhat harsh yellow card saw the Borderers reduced to 10 players for 10 minutes after the restart, but Fjordhus’ superiority was evident by the fact they managed two further strikes during that time.

Anderson got her fourth before Annabel Small rounded the keeper from close range to score.

There was still time for Roberston to get a well-deserved goal as her quick reactions saw her first to a rebound to complete the rout.

Borders Fjordhus: A. McMinn, R. Hunniford, P. Bell, J. Scott, C. Townsend, D. Fairbairn, J. Jack, K. Cornwall, Y. Rafferty, S. Robertson, L. Anderson, A. Small.

z Also playing at home last weekend, Borders Fjordhus 2nds managed a 4-3 victory over Edinburgh Civil Service.
