Bo'ness stand in Souters' cup path

THEY may be juniors, but Bo'ness United will present high-flying Selkirk with a big challenge if they are to make round two of the Scottish Cup, writes Kenny Paterson.

Paul Brownlee's side host the reigning East Super League champions on September 25 - and Bo'ness will include Fraser Forrest, the Jedburgh Grammar PE teacher who formerly played with Alloa Athletic, in their line-up.

Selkirk will also have to look out for Andy Shirra, the ex-Stenhousemuir midfielder who has represented Scotland's junior team.

Meanwhile, the Souters face Preston Athletic tomorrow at Yarrow Park looking for their fourth premier division win in a row after defeating Tynecastle 2-1 last weekend.

Steven Sharkey and Steven Noble have both been released at their own requests, but coach Bryan Templeton is justifiably in confident mood.

He said: "We are playing well at the moment and everybody is going about with a little swagger, which is great.

"Last week against Tynecastle we could well have won by more, and they are a respected side. It's great getting results like this, and we will be looking for another three points on Saturday."

Goals from Jason Inglis and Paul Hossack were Selkirk's reward for a battling performance against Tynecastle.

Jason Cockburn was chopped down for a penalty just before the break, which Inglis expertly tucked away. And Hossack's brave header from a Cockburn flick-on meant a Wayne McIntosh goal for the hosts on 70 minutes proved irrelevant.

Tomorrow's game against Preston Athletic kicks off at 2.30pm.
