Bossie out for revenge

SELKIRK host St Boswells tomorrow in the Border League in a match both teams will be determined to win for different reasons.

The Souters remain winless after another heavy defeat last Saturday to Kelso, and will pinpoint victory against reigning league champions St Boswells, who have struggled for form this season.

However, The Villagers were left furious in May when Selkirk called off the reverse fixture half an hour before the scheduled start, and as a result they will be fully motivated to collect the full 20 points.

Selkirk lost by eight wickets on Saturday to Kelso at Shedden Park. The visitors batted first and posted 100 all out, with Kenny Paterson (19) and Darren Fenton (18) the only batsmen to reach double figures.

Kelso overcame the target in just 16 overs. Dougie Wilson got the homesters off to a blistering start with 46 before Michael Fenton caught the veteran opener off his younger brother Greg’s bowling. Paterson then trapped Stevie Patterson lbw for 15, but Neil Dagg (17 not out) and Ross Henderson (6 not out) were still at the crease as the Tweedsiders secured victory.

The second team’s fine form continued on Sunday, however, as Selkirk defeated St Boswells by 29 runs at Philiphaugh.

Selkirk fielded one of their youngest teams ever, Ian Banks apart, and posted an impressive 143 all out, having batted first.

Within the innings was a maiden half-century for impressive youngster Jordan Reid, who was well supported by Darren and Greg Fenton, who both made 19, and Lee Oliver who hit 20.

In reply, St Boswells were bowled out for 114, Richard Young top scoring with 32 and Oliver picking up 2 for 13 from his six overs.

The second team face fellow reserve league title contenders Hawick and Wilton at Philiphaugh this Sunday.
