Victoria vie for promotion as Winton drop out

IT’S been a tumultuous week in the Border Amateur League Division B following the immediate withdrawal of Winton AFC.

But for Selkirk Victoria it was business as usual as they edged ever closer to the promotion places.

A 2-2 draw against Eyemouth Amateurs saw the Yarrow Park outfit pick up a valuable point.

And, with all points from games against Winton being declaired null and void, the Vics now sit in third position on the league table with only two points between them and top-placed Hawick United.

Winton have cited the loss of two managers and several players as their reasons for pulling out of the league.

Last week, Selkirk were ahead at half-time thanks to Jon Bodicoat, who got on the end of Nathan Douglas’ free kick to head past the Eyemouth keeper on 35 minutes.

Eyemouth hit back after the break and went ahead with a quickfire double on 55 and 59 minutes.

With 10 minutes to go, however, Darren Munro burst down the wing before cutting inside and dinking the ball over the keeper to level the game at 2-2.

Neither side could force a winner in the closing stages and the game ended in the same scoreline as the reverse league fixture in December.
