Friendly encounter

FOOTBALL and rugby will join forces in Selkirk next week when the oval ball men hold the first of this season's lunches.

Stewart Hillis has been team doctor at 235 Scotland football internationals and was also, for many years, Glasgow Rangers' team doctor - and next Friday he will be treating diners to a dose of tales from both.

Hillis has just retired as a cardiologist in Glasgow and, because of his work with sport and exercise, was awarded a personal chair in exercise cardiology by Glasgow University several years ago.

He also received an OBE this year.

Lunch will be served from 12.45-1pm and tickets are available from Donald Macleod, Bill Bryson and Bert Duffy from the host rugby club, and Selkirk FC's Jim Moody.
