Fyonnah's in a league of her own

ETTRICK FOREST RIDERS and their large Selkirk contingent celebrated a successful 2009 when they held their annual get-together at The Woll Golf Club.

Club chairman Fiona Busby presented the Winter League competition winners with their medals.

Selkirk’s Fyonnah Thomas picked up the award for being the open showjumping league winner and was also presented with a certificate acknowledging her achievement of triumphing in all four S/J league levels.

Riding her own horse Advanta Gold, Fyonnah won the nursery league in 2003, the novice and intermediate two years later, and the 2009 open. Fyonnah is the first member to achieve this and, as a result, is the 2010 recipient of the Catriona Arres memorial training grant.

The Jean McAulay Cup is presented to the member who takes most points overall in the winter league competitions and this year was won by committee member Jane Aitken. Unfortunately, she was convalescing at home after a spell of illness when the presentations took place.

The evening finished with a slide show from member Rhona Young highlighting the successes the club achieved in 2009.

Winter league dressage winners: Tracey MacKay (prelim sec. A), Andrea Pogson (prelim sec. B), Janey Lowthian (restricted novice), Jane Aitken (open novice and elementary). Winter league showjumping winners: Laura Sanderson (nursery), Jennifer Stott (novice), Karen Gillie (intermediate), and Fyonnah Thomas (open).
