Main decides enough is enough
LIFE hasn't been easy for Selkirk FC this season and this week the Yarrow Park outfit were dealt another blow when assistant coach Davie Main made the decision to quit his post.
Davie joined the coaching team in June 2008 along with current manager Paul Brownlee. The pair were joined at the start of that season by former Gala Fairydean boss Bryan Templeton and the trio have been running things on the field since.
Last weekend, however, the former Vics and Hawick Waverley boss decided he had had enough at the club and informed them of his decision to leave.
Main was unavailable for comment this week but close friend and Selkirk FC stalwart Alan Skeldon told The Wee Paper: “Davie has not been enjoying his time at the club since Christmas and has just decided to call it a day.
“He runs his own business and enjoys a game of golf among other things, and is going to put his energy into these things for a while.
“It’s a bit of a bummer for the club but Davie felt that if he wasn’t enjoying it any more then there was no point in carrying on.”
This weekend Selkirk, who only need three points to guarantee their safety in the top flight, travel to Riccarton Campus to tackle Heriot-Watt University.
Skeldon, who was the club’s physio until the start of the year, added: “It will be a difficult game for Selkirk but there is no reason why they can’t take some points from it.”
Selkirk have Grant Gass out, due to suspension, while Tony Craggs is still injured.
