McKinnon wins

IN THE recent gents two-bowl singles competition at Selkirk Bowling Club, last year's winner Colin McKinnon retained the trophy.

McKinnon defeated Stuart Henderson in the final.

On Friday night the second round of the Selkirk Bowling Club Pub League competition took place on the Selkirk Green.

The persistent drizzle failed to dampen the spirits of the bowlers, some of whom had obviously been undergoing extra training sessions since the previous week’s closely-fought matches.

Having been beaten by fellow publicans The Fleece the previous week, the Town Arms pulled no punches when doing the business over the Merchant Company, walking off 22-6 winners after the obligatory 12-ends.

Meanwhile, The Fleece kept up their winning run with a 14-6 victory over a rather woolly-looking Southern Reporter outfit. The Tory club were a bit more conservative in their win over the Ex-Standard Bearers, but still remain in pole position in the league.

Pub League results: Merchant Company 6 Town Arms 22; Fleece 15 The Southern Reporter 6; Ex-Standard Bearers 10 Tory Club 14; Babychams 11 Masons 16.

This week’s fixtures: Fleece v Merchant Company; Babychams v Ex-Standard Bearers; Tory Club v Masons. The tie between the Town Arms and The Southern will be rearranged by mutual consent at a later date due to prior commitments in Copshaw.
