Miniature agony for Burgess
For the first time this season there is a clear leader in the Selkirk Pub Bowling League.
But that could change tonight as table props TheSouthern prepare to cause an upset.
Mutiny is afoot as the hapless hacks, who have yet to win a game, plan to reverse their fortunes against the orders of skip Bob Burgess who has a musical engagement tonight and is unavailable to play.
An inconsolable Burgess told The Wee Paper: "It's a travesty. The booby prize whisky miniatures are in our sights and my colleagues want to win. Hopefully this is just a fleeting moment of madness and they will buckle down tonight and play to their usual standards."
Blazing Burgess went on to bemoan the fact that despite not having won a single game his team were still not last. "The Ex Standard Bearers have taken the pub league, and the battle of the miniatures, to a new level," he added.
The Masons soared to the top of the pile last week after a comprehensive 13-4 victory over the Town Arms.
Tonight's fixtures: Merchant Company v Ex Standard Bearers; Babychams v Town Arms; Fleece v Tory Club; Southern Reporter v Masons.
Week Five Results: Fleece 18 Ex Standard Bearers 5; Merchants 24 The Southern 6; Masons 13 Town Arms 4; Babychams 11 Tory Club 9.
