Andy comes in handy

IN LAST weekend’s Texas Scramble, Andy Pickersgill’s nine iron into the eighth hole for an eagle three proved the difference between his team and the runners-up, both sides finishing with eight threes and a four for gross scores of 30 for the nine holes.

There were many other superb scores, the Texas Scramble format proving popular with winter golfers.

Results: 1, P. Henderson, L. Rutherford and A. Pickersgill nett 26.8; 2, J. S. Kemp, C. Kemp and D. Ballantyne 27.5.

This week’s sympathy was hard to find with the highest score the whole weekend being a six, but Mitch Thomson gained celebrity status when he hoisted two balls into the jungle at the last hole, leading to his team’s “no return”.

Next week it’s back to normal with the nine-hole Christmas Crackers format – play any time over the weekend. Hopefully there will be lots of tales of derring-do and derring-don’t to report.
