Athletes getting set for starting gun…

LOCAL athletes are preparing to get on their marks for the Selkirk Common Riding Games which will be held at Philiphaugh on Saturday (1.30pm).

One of the biggest days on the Selkirk sporting calendar this year’s event has attracted a bumper entry from all over the Borders and with the Grand Gymkhana being held on the adjacent pitches (from 12.30pm) there is plenty on offer for local sports followers.

Jedburgh duo Greg Turnbull and Iskan Barskanmay are the back markers for the feature sprint which has an entry of 70 runners.

Selkirk entries

90m confined: Craig Douglas (19.5m); Craig Bruce (14m); Colin Bruce (6.5m).

800m open: Greg Gibson (62.5m).

110m open sprint: Craig Bruce (16m); Geoff Keen (12.5m); Craig Douglas (22.5m); Colin Bruce (11m).

200m open: Craig Douglas (44); Craig Bruce (30m); Iain Douglas (17m); Geoff Keen (24m); Colin Bruce (21m).

1600m open: Alastair Laurie (330m).

90m junior (9-12 year olds): Callum Anderson (9m); Keelan Gerrard (14m).

90m youth (13-16 year olds): Kerr Gerrard (6m).

200m junior: Callum Anderson (20m); Keelan Gerrard (30m).

200m Youth: Kerr Gerrard (15m).
