Doing the double at Dunbar

SELKIRK TRACK & FIELD enjoyed double success at Dunbar on Sunday in the Borders Cross-country Series.

Having missed the opening round at Lauder a fortnight ago, due to a clash of races, both Jack Stanners and Zaynah Aziz made an immediate impact by winning the junior races.

Stanners, 15, led all the way over the 2.5 miles and, despite falling in the final mile, held on to win by 50m from Nathan Cox of Galashiels.

And 12-year-old Aziz beat girls up to four years older to win the girls’ race by a similar distance from Ishbel Strathdee from Edinburgh.

Last year’s Borders Cross-country Series junior champion John McLean made his debut in the senior race.

The 16-year-old was just beaten in a sprint finish for fifth place over the five-mile course.

A total of 95 junior runners took part with 220 competing in the senior race.
