Holy moley! Thief goes to ground with Norman’s ball
IN LAST weekend’s Winter Woollies competition, there was a good entry and many fine scores.
Leading the way was Les Rutherford whose card of nett 31 was enriched by a sumptuous two at the seventh. Also with a two at the same hole was joint runner-up Norman Roxburgh. Sharing second place with a nett 32 was Alistair McVie, making a welcome return to golf.
On Roxburgh’s first nine holes, he hit a perfect drive down the fifth, only to have his ball snatched by a mole and taken underground – never to be seen again. Golf’s difficult enough without additional hazards such as thieving moles!
Also holing out in two were Andrew Webster, Martine Pow, Rob Forrest, Drew Reid and, as usual, Tom Welsh.
Tickets for the club’s pre-season dinner on March 23 will shortly go on sale. There promises to be good food and excellent speakers. – A. M.
