HOCKEY ace Sarah Robertson, pictured right, is the 2012 Wee Paper Sports Personality of the Year.

The 19-year-old law student received her first senior international cap in May this year and has never looked back since.

Having played three tournaments so far for Gordon Stephen’s Scotland squad, Sarah is currently in Australia competing for Team GB at the Youth Olympic Festival. However, on being informed of her latest accolade by parents Bert and Sandra Robertson, the teenager said she was “surprised, but chuffed” to receive the award.

Votes have been pouring into The Wee Paper’s Hermitage office since nominations opened last month.

“It was a great achievement for Sarah to be selected for Scotland and the GB squad, as well as keeping up her studies at Edinburgh University,” said one of her nominators.”

Another stated: “Sarah has made tremendous progress in her hockey career to date and has her sights firmly set on Glasgow 2014.”

The former Selkirk High School pupil has already competed at under-16, under-18 and under-21 level, and in 2011 was named as Ettrick & Lauderdale Sports Personality of the Year.

Sarah returns from Australia on Tuesday and will be presented with her award later in the week.
