Playpark mums on the run

A GROUP of Selkirk mums are putting their best feet forward in a bid to raise money to create a new children's playpark.

The town's first hill race for more than 20 years will take place on Sunday, August 15, and having already raised 5,000 towards their dream, the group are hoping their latest venture will keep the cash flooding in.

Playpark committee spokesperson Shiela Cochrane said: "There's already well-established hill races at the Eildons and Black Hills - we'd like to make our race just as successful."

As many as 100 club and fun runners are expected to take part in the challenging 4.5-mile route up Corbie Lynn and past Tibbie's gravestone And organisers hope it will be the start of something even bigger.

Entry forms for the Philiphaugh Hill Run have been available for just over a week and demand is already high.

The race, which has an entry fee of 5, starts at the Corbie Lynn car park on with refreshments being served at a prize-giving ceremony in the nearby rugby club.

And everyone who finishes the route will collect a medal.

Sheila added: "We want to attract good club runners as well as fun joggers and even walkers. There's no age limit - everyone is welcome"

Entry forms are available by emailing sheila@andersonroad.plus.com - or by telephoning Sheila on 01750 21073 or 07776413725.
