Proud MacLeod rallies the club troops
Selkirk Rugby Club president Donald MacLeod reported on a successful first year in office at the AGM.
"As a club we can take great pride in the achievements of all Selkirk rugby teams," he told the many club members present.
Macleod thanked all who had supported the club over the past season, both financially and by giving their time to ensure the smooth running of the club.
Training started for the squad at the end of June with captain Fraser Harkness looking fit and leading by example, while coaches Graham Marshall and Rodney Pow have settled nicely into their new roles.
"Selkirk is twice blessed in that we have two outstanding coaches taking over," added the president.
The 2010 season will start without the benefit of Lee Jones and Alex Dunbar who have moved on to play for pro teams Edinburgh and Glasgow respectively. Macleod continued: "I wish them every success and hope that we will see them in a Selkirk jersey from time to time during the coming season."
The president ended his address by reminding the audience of the club's mission statement: "It is that we must work to ensure that all playing and non-playing members of our club, our supporters and our community enjoy and are proud of their involvement with Selkirk Rugby Club," he said.
"I hope you feel that we lived up to our mission over the last season.
"I am looking forward to the coming season. The challenges will be greater than ever with the restructured season. We will need to hit the ground running. We will need to be ready."
