Cassidy promises role reversal as Falkirk return
HAVING been without a game for almost a month, Selkirk’s rugby stars are champing at the bit to get a competitive fixture under their belts this weekend.
Weather permitting, Falkirk will pay a visit to Philiphaugh tomorrow and, on the pitch, they can certainly bank on a frosty reception.
The last time the two teams met Selkirk ran out losers in a high-scoring 39-26 defeat and team manager Brian Cassidy is adamant that the result will be reversed this time round.
He told The Wee Paper: “No disrespect to Falkirk, but we were missing seven players when we travelled up to play them and didn’t have enough cover for the key positions. I am confident that won’t happen again this weekend.”
Cassidy is further heartened by the fact that his team are now considered one of the best defensive outfits in the Borders.
“I was delighted to see that in the recent Borders Rugby Rankings in The Southern Reporter that we were sitting second. Last year we were last, so that is a huge achievement and I take my hat off to everyone who has worked hard in that area, including pro player Steve Scott who helped us out a bit in this area in pre-season.
“I have taken some flack in the past for my negative attitude towards try-scoring bonus points, but I stand by everything I have said. A win’s a win and that is what is important at the end of the day.”
Selkirk v Falkirk kicks off at 3pm tomorrow.
