Cracking weather for start of comp
SELKIRK GENTS
IN UNSEASONABLY fine weather last weekend, there was a good turnout and some good golf in the first of the Christmas Crackers competitions.
Leading the way were two of Selkirk’s steadiest golfers – Andrew Webster and Stuart Kemp – with fine nett 32’s.
Results: 1=, J. S. Kemp and A. Webster nett 32; 3= R. Douglas, N. Purves and W. MacDonald 33.
Five players had the necessary skills to record twos – T. Welsh, A. Raphael, J. Coyle, N. Purves and Billy MacDonald, who had the skill to bag three of them and almost empty Santa’s cracker box.
Billy’s brother Hughie was less fortunate and would have won this week’s sympathy if it wasn’t for the fact that he is a new member. Instead the sympathy should go to his golf ball which suffered enormous physical and mental damage at the seventh hole.
But let’s reserve our sympathy for Tug Wilson, who took off his socks and shoes, rolled up his trousers and waded into the pond at the 8th to retrieve his ball. Only it wasn’t his. It was an old tattie. His ball was 40 yards further on in the middle of the fairway.
There is a well-supported charity competition on Saturday (open to all and still some spaces available) and then there will be a further episode of the Christmas Cracker drama on Sunday. AM
