Rhinos run riot in Hawick
P4 Winning Rhino's: Jubilant Rhino's celebrate their victory, Back Row from left: Patrick MacDonell, Sam Clark, Finlay Wheelans, Cameron Easson. Front Row: Blake Cullen, Munro Job, Steven Beveridge.
THERE was mixed success for the Selkirk Rhinos who travelled to Hawick for their annual mini rugby tournament last weekend.
However, P4 Rhinos were flying the flag for Selkirk as they took home the trophy for their age group.
Unbeaten in the pool stages with wins over Jedburgh, Langholm and Hawick, the youngsters scored 21 tries and leaked only four tries through the Selkirk wall.
On to Melrose in the final, where some fantastic rugby was played by both sets of players. It was end-to-end stuff, Melrose pulled two tries clear at one point, but the Rhino’s clawed back and got their noses in front at 7-6.
Some great defence at the end kept Melrose at bay, earning the team high praise indeed from coaches Mark Easson and Alan Wheelans.
“A great effort by all, well done lads”.
