NATIONAL RESERVE LEAGUE

DIVISION TWO

FOLLOWING their disappointing defeat to Aberdeen two weeks previous, Selkirk A travelled to Kirkcaldy last weekend looking to get back to winning ways.

The Souters started strongly against the bottom-of-the-table outfit and were soon on the scoreboard with a try by Michael Waldron, converted by Darren Scott.

Confidence grew and tries followed at regular intervals courtesy of Ruarhi Wilson, Michael Waldron and Matt Robertson. Scott converted one, making the half-time score 0-24.

The second half was more of the same from the Selkirk team who scored another four unanswered tries through Calvin Henderson, Ewan Macdougall, Rory Banks and Callum McColm. Scott added a further three conversions.

Selkirk’s strong forward play had a lot to do with the victory – putting in the hard yards and dominating all aspects of the struggle up front. Best for Selkirk were John Everitt, Michael Waldron, Michael Davies, Rory Banks and Connor Ward.

Selkirk: Scott Tough; Ryan Godsmark, Fraser Jack, Chris Shand, Matt Robertson; Darren Scott, Michael Davies; Brendon Reid, Nik Weilbo, Michael Waldron, Connor Ward, Ruarhi Wilson, Gavin Henderson, John Everitt, Wullie McClymont. Subs (all used): Calvin Henderson, Keiren Reid, Rory Banks, Callum McColm, Ewan Macdougall.

z Selkirk RFC (in common with most rugby clubs in Scotland) were frustrated on Saturday after Friday night’s frost put paid to any hopes of play.

The Souters were scheduled to meet Biggar in what was likely to be a very entertaining Premier C league match at Hartreemill, but although the day started out bright, the sun quickly disappeared and there was insufficient heat to trouble the hard ground. There is no date confirmed as yet for the replay.

There is no 1st XV or 2nd XV games this weekend due to the Six Nations Calcutta Cup clash at Murrayfield featuring former Selkirk winger Lee Jones.

On Saturday, Selkirk Stormers face Kelso 2nds at Philiphaugh in the Border Cup (kick-off 2pm).
