Sharon Jones will take over the running of the rugby club bar from Alan Seal in May, Photograph Grant Kinghorn.

MEMBERS, players, officials and guests of Selkirk RFC will be met and greeted by a new face when rugby eventually kicks off again at Philiphaugh.

Sharon Jones is already a familiar figure around the clubhouse, though, and is sure of a hearty welcome when she takes her place behind the bar as the club’s new steward.

Current host with the most, Alan Seal, is due to retire at the end of April and the club has appointed Mrs Jones as his replacement.

Sharon starts this week and will work alongside Alan before taking over the reins in May.

Sharon does not have far to travel to work as she lives in Ettrickhaugh Road with her husband, Richard.

Members at the rugby and cricket clubs may well know the couple as they have been known to use their respective bars on the odd occasion.

The short journey to work will be a great relief for Sharon as her previous employment was with JD Wetherspoon in Edinburgh as a hotel manager. Although she is American/Canadian, Sharon is no stranger to Selkirk as her father is originally from the town with the same name in Ontario.
