Second chance to pick sports personality

THERE is still time to get your votes in for the Wee Paper Sports Personality of the Year 2012 award.

Due to interruptions to postal services etc. over the festive period, we have decided to extend the deadline for voting to 5pm on Tuesday, January 15, with the winner being announced in next Friday’s issue.

Nominations have been arriving steadily at the Wee Paper’s Hermitage HQ this week, with a variety of names being thrown into the mix. But we would still like to hear more from the Selkirk sporting fraternity on which talented individuals they think should receive our coveted trophy, gifted by Turnbull’s Shoe Repairs, and why.

In addition the winner will receive a year’s subscription to the Wee Paper. Nominations will be counted as one vote and can include all sports-minded people, whether they play an active role individually or as part of a team, or whether they work away behind the scenes for the benefit of others.

The winner will be the sports personality who receives the most individual nominations. Multiple nominations from the same person will only be counted as one. To nominate a candidate, just fill in the coupon on page 15 and post/hand it in to The Southern Reporter, The Hermitage, High Street, Selkirk TD7 4DA.

Alternatively, email Fiona Scott at fiona.scott@jpress.co.uk with your nomination, a brief description of why they deserve the award and your name and contact number.
