Souter trio aiming for Innerleithen sprint glory

Injuries and holidays have taken their toll on Selkirk athletes this weekend as the 2010 Border Games circuit rolls into Victoria Park, Innerleithen , for the 182nd St Ronan's Games.

The local kids did well at Jed last weekend. Zayna Aziz was just caught on the line in the 800 metres, while Andrew Nisbet finished second in the 400m and fourth in the 200m Jack Stanners came fourth in the 400m.

Coach David Knox told The Wee Paper: "That was pretty good from all of them as there were big fields and difficult heats to get through."

Josh Welsh, Iain Douglas and Craig Douglas all run this week, while Andrew Nisbet is still looking for his first win after finishing second twice and clinching a third this season. Jack Stanners steps up to the mile from his normal 800m and won't be too far away.

Top race of the day is the 110m open handicap in which Geoff Keen, Iain Douglas and Marc Cockburn all go for Selkirk. After her excellent performance in winning the Jed Sprint, Peebles runner Amy Clancy finds herself off a mark of 16m.

St Ronan's marks (for Selkirk athletes):

110m open handicap: Geoff Keen 10.5m; Iain Douglas 9m; Marc Cockburn 14m.

200m open handicap: Iain Douglas 13m; Geoff Keen 16m; Craig Douglas 40m.

1600m open handicap: Alastair Laurie 265m.

90m youth handicap: Andrew Nisbet (14) 16.5m; Josh Welsh (16) 5m; Scott Nisbet (11) 23m.

200m youth handicap: Andrew Nisbet 32m; Scott Nisbet 48m; Josh Welsh 6m.

1600m youth handicap: Jack Stanners (13) 250m.
