Zaynah's Tweedbank triumph
SUCCESS came the way of Selkirk at last weekend's Tweedbank games via 10-year-old middle-distance runner Zaynah Aziz.
From the David Knox school, the plucky youngster led the youths' 800m handicap at the gun and held her position all the way.
Urged on by the crowd, Zaynah dug deep and strode to victory in 1min 56.70sec.
She told the Wee Paper: "I didn't think I would win today. In most of the races I run in I get beat by quite a lot, and I thought this one would be the same. It's really nice to have won."
Iain Douglas took second in the 200m handicap which was won by TLJT athlete Graeme Scott, who was also victorious in the sprint
Selkirk's Marc Cockburn turned on the style to win the 90m handicap at Inverkeithing Games last weekend, while Geoff Keen notched a second place in the 200m handicap.
This weekend the athletes are off to Morebattle Tofts for the last meeting of the 2010 Border Games circuit.
