Spotlight set to fall on youth theatre

Borders Youth Theatre (BYT) is holding its annual showcase and fundraiser next week to demonstrate students’ skills and creativity, learned from this year’s workshops in Selkirk, Jedburgh, Kelso and Melrose.

The evening of short theatre pieces – onFebruary 15 at 7pm in Melrose’s Corn Exchange – range from comedy to the thought-provoking and, in places, deeply moving. Admission is free, but BYT hopes to raise money from the raffle and refreshments.

Last week, Scottish Borders Council approved a £4,109 grant to the Selkirk-based theatre group which, if its other match-funding bids are successful, will be used to put on a play during the National Theatre Connections 2014 Festival.
